DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol): assigns an IP (internet Protocol) address to each device
DNS (Domain Names Service): an internet address book to translate IP address and domain (e.g. lacrossealertsmobile.com)
IP (Internet Protocol) Address: each internet device requires one; we support IP v4, (e.g. ###.##.###.###).
MAC (Media Access Control) Address: a unique identifier for every electronic device circuit board; format is XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX where XX can be a letter or number; some routers must pre-approve a Mac address; see static ip information to locate gateway's MAC address.
Router: uses DHCP to assign IP addresses. A router can be hardware or software, only one router should issue IP addresses. We cannot guarantee support for your router.
Note: We cannot configure your router; use the glossary and find related instructions in your router's manual.
